Tour de France 2024 : étape Gap-Barcelonnette

Chorges

Description

On the Gap-Barcelonnette stage, the Tour de France passes through the Serre-Ponçon region
The communes of Chorges, Prunières, Saint-Apollinaire, Savines-le-Lac and Le Sauze du Lac will be on the programme before the finish of this stage.

After crossing Devoluy and making a detour into Isère near Lac du Sautet, this 179km 18th stage will return to the Hautes-Alpes via the long Champsaur - Valgaudemar crossing. The stage will return to the commune of La Bâtie-Neuve, close to Lake Serre-Ponçon, before turning off at Chorges towards Saint-Apollinaire. This climb could hold some surprises (distance and altitude changes to be announced shortly), as the programme for the next few days promises to be nothing short of breathtaking.

After descending to the shores of Lac de Serre-Ponçon, the route will cross the Savines-le-Lac bridge, probably escorted by a large number of boats, windfoils and kite surfers. The last climb on the day's menu will be the most difficult: the demoiselles coiffées (distance and gradient to be announced shortly). Between Savines-le-Lac and Sauze-du-Lac, the climb is short but very tough, as spectacular as the many viewpoints plunging down onto the turquoise waters of Serre-Ponçon. The hillsides along the route offer ideal spots to spend the day waiting for the caravan and the peloton while enjoying the spectacular views.
